CIAO Aviano High School Scholarship Program

OVERVIEW

CIAO Scholarships are available to Graduating High School Seniors of DoD Family assigned to Aviano AB. The DoD Family includes: active duty, reserve component, and retired members (living in the area) in any branch of the United States military, civilian DoD and DoDEA personnel employed at Aviano AB. The CIAO scholarship programs are the heart of who we are as an organization: we strive to create opportunities and empower our Aviano community.

Scholarships are awarded solely on merit and academic achievement, with no regard to race, color, creed, religion, or disability. Financial need is not taken into consideration.

CIAO offers five categories of high school scholarships. These scholarships are awarded to Graduating High School Seniors who meet the specific criteria outlined in each category.

  1. The CIAO Athletic Scholarship: This scholarship is awarded to three (3) student who has demonstrated excellence in athletic involvement and academic achievement. One (1) scholarship is awarded in the amount of $1,500. Two (2) scholarships are awarded in the amount of $1,000 each.
  1. The CIAO Academic Merit Scholarship: This scholarship is awarded to three (3) students who have demonstrated academic excellence while balancing extracurriculars and volunteerism. One scholarship is awarded in the amount of $2,500. Two (2) scholarships are awarded in the amount of $1,500 each.
  1. The CIAO Award for Excellence Scholarship: The Scholarship Award for Excellence. This scholarship is awarded to one (1) student who has demonstrated a passion and commitment to volunteerism and community service and has volunteered a minimum of 40 hours in the community, not including the Thrift Shop. The amount of the scholarship is $1,500.
  1. The CIAO Aviano Thrift Shop Scholarship: This scholarship is awarded to up to ten (10) students who volunteer a minimum of 20 hours in the Aviano Thrift Shop. The amounts awarded are as follows: Two (2) scholarships of $1,000 each; four (4) scholarships of $500 each; and four (4) scholarships of $250 each.
  1. The CIAO Young Enlisting Seniors (YES) Scholarship: This scholarship is awarded to up to five (5) students who have made the service commitment to enter the Armed Forces after High School. Five (5) scholarships are awarded in the amount of $500 each.

CIAO Spouses Educational Assistance Scholarship Program (SEAS)

OVERVIEW

Are you a member of CIAO and a Spouse of the DoD Family pursuing your education? Then this scholarship opportunity is for you! As a benefit of membership, CIAO offers its spouse members educational assistance through the Spouses Educational Assistance Scholarship (SEAS) Program.

CIAO Scholarships are available to our Members who are also spouses of DoD Family assigned to Aviano AB. The DoD Family includes: active duty, reserve component, and retired members (living in the area) in any branch of the United States military, civilian DoD and DoDEA personnel employed at Aviano AB. The CIAO scholarship programs are the heart of who we are as an organization: we strive to create opportunities and empower our Aviano community.

Application Period: October 1 – November 1, 2023

Eligibility

  • Must be a member of CIAO.
  • Must be a spouse of the DoD Family assigned to Aviano AB. The DoD Family includes: active duty, reserve component, and retired members in any branch of the United States military, civilian DoD and DoDEA personnel employed at Aviano AB.
  • Applicants must have a GPA of 3.0 or above on a 4.0 scale. Consideration will be given for lower GPAs, however, in cases where recent grades show great improvement over early work. High school grades will be considered if fewer than 15 semester hours of college work have been completed.
  • Applicants must be pursuing an undergraduate or graduate degree, certificate, or completing continuing education for certifications; and must be actively enrolled in classes during the current academic semester. Enrollment can be either full-time or part-time. The school must be an accredited college, university, or certifying authority.
  • Sponsors of applicants must reside within 50 miles of Aviano AB. Applicants themselves need not reside here.
  • If the military sponsor is deceased, the applicant must provide proof of military benefits based on the family relationship to the deceased military member.

Scholarship Application

The purpose of this scholarship program is to assist adult students in their pursuits of higher education.
